The Border Enforcement Section handles a large number of reactive cases resulting from surveillance of the California-Mexico border, six ports of entry, and the approximately 70-mile coastline that stretches from the U.S.-Mexico border to the northern tip of San Diego County. Cases often include illegal entry and readmission, importation of drugs and continued trafficking of foreigners. This section consists of a reception unit, an accelerated unit, an immigration unit and four experimental teams. Lawyers for the Border Patrol Department hear a large number of cases and often oversee the use of investigative tools such as search and prosecution warrants, covert operations, and confidential sources. Other departments in the office focus primarily on proactive investigations and prosecutions. These sections track a variety of sophisticated criminal activity consistent with San Diego`s status as one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Eligibility and Citizenship: It is the Department`s policy to achieve drug-free employment, and individuals selected for employment must be tested for illicit drug use prior to final appointment.
