Through this extensive research, ALA examined the work of a legal administrator and identified the skills (knowledge, skills and abilities) that are essential to the proper performance of the administrator`s work. These analyses are the guidelines used in the development of ALA education and certification programs. In addition, successful completion of the CLM exam shows that an individual has the management skills and the depth and breadth of knowledge that would allow them to visit a law firm with 30 to 50 lawyers, review practices and procedures, become familiar with all areas of legal administration, and offer advice without relying on others.
