Newly licensed attorneys in Illinois must complete a total of 15 credit hours during the first year of admission. This requirement consists of 6 credits of the Core Competencies course approved directly by the MCLE Board of Directors to meet the specific Core Competencies requirements. Newly licensed lawyers can meet all their requirements with us, including basic skills credits, with our DVDs, audio CDs, USB sticks, online app formats and iOS/Android. The deadline for fulfilling these new admission requirements is one year after the date of your authorization on the last day of the month (see Rule 793(b)). A lawyer who has been removed from his or her duties as master during one to three reporting periods must complete the required credits or be eligible for an exemption from these requirements and pay the reinstatement fee for each reporting period for which the lawyer was removed. A lawyer who has been removed from his or her duties as master for more than three reporting periods must complete the required credits or be eligible for an exemption from these requirements for the last three reporting periods for which the lawyer was removed. However, the lawyer must pay the rehabilitation costs for each period during which the lawyer was dismissed. Illinois lawyers whose last name begins with A-M, your time is almost up! Submit your CLE compliance to the MCLE Board of Directors by 11:59 p.m. CDT on June 30 to avoid late fees. From 2020, you will be able to access and check your official MCLE credit score at any time on the MCLE Board Attorney portal on the Board`s website (www.mcleboard.org). (Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a delay of up to eight weeks between the end of this program and the registration of the balance on the Board`s Counsel Portal.) Newly admitted lawyers have separate requirements. In response to the evolving situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, most live CLE events around the world have been cancelled. In response, states and other jurisdictions have temporarily suspended requirements requiring their lawyers to attend the CLE in person to meet their MCLE requirements, or have adjusted deadlines, fees, or other aspects of their rules. Your state may have temporarily changed the MCLE requirements. Lawyers report compliance (or a valid exemption) with MCLE requirements every two years.
