The Border Enforcement Section handles a large number of reactive cases resulting from surveillance of the California-Mexico border, six ports of entry, and the approximately 70-mile coastline that stretches from the U.S.-Mexico border to the northern tip of San Diego County. Cases often include illegal entry and readmission, importation of drugs and continued trafficking of foreigners. This section consists of a reception unit, an accelerated unit, an immigration unit and four experimental teams. Lawyers for the Border Patrol Department hear a large number of cases and often oversee the use of investigative tools such as search and prosecution warrants, covert operations, and confidential sources.
