JOB SUMMARY: The primary mission of the Shelter Specialist is to conduct shelter monitoring activities in accordance with the duties and obligations of the Coalition as an independent monitor of New York City`s urban shelters. The shelter specialist will regularly visit homes across the city to visit homes throughout the city to document violations and other issues as part of officially scheduled joint day inspections with the Department of Homelessness Services, as well as unscheduled inspections that may take place at night and on weekends. The shelter specialist will work with shelter residents to make recommendations to coalition programs and, if necessary, contact shelter staff directly to immediately resolve resident issues. In collaboration with advocacy staff, including other members of the shelter monitoring team, the Shelter Specialist will establish priorities and objectives for shelter monitoring and work with shelter residents through education and advocacy. The shelter specialist will also help organize, support and mobilize New York City shelter residents and former homeless people for coalition campaigns and events. The Shelter Specialist will adopt a professional tone in the delivery of these services that aligns with the mission and objectives of the Homelessness Coalition. This position also includes working with homeless families with children and/or families at risk of homelessness who require emergency shelters (EAs), as well as families occupying EA shelters whose benefits are being cut. Responsibilities include helping homeless families overcome EA housing denial, helping families maintain their housing services, and helping families with a disabled household member obtain necessary disability-related housing.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Events Manager works under the direction of the Director of Development and the Coalition to plan and implement the organization`s fundraising and culture activities.
The Manager manages and coordinates all activities related to the coalition`s fundraising events – including the Women Mean Business Luncheon, the Artist Plate Project and ARTWALK NY – and supports other special projects. The manager oversees all aspects of events, including the management of suppliers and consultants; performance committees; Sponsorship; invitations and date backups; Places; Restoration; Decoration; budgeting and financial monitoring; and meeting agendas and minutes. The manager works closely with volunteers, event committees, development staff and the Director of Development to ensure events are managed effectively. The manager performs all professional duties consistent with the mission and objectives of the Coalition for Homelessness, and is expected to become familiar with the Coalition`s programs and advocacy work. One of the key responsibilities of the Director of AID is to work with the Director of Human Resources to ensure that organizational policies are consistent with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement. monitoring the implementation of the measures set out in the DEIA strategic plan; the continued development of new AID initiatives within the organization; and help ensure that recruitment and hiring processes increase employee diversity to better reflect the diversity of the organization`s clients. The position includes advising and representing individuals and families referred from Rosie`s Place to Greater Boston Legal Services to assist them in resolving administrative issues arising from issues with the housing authority or management company administering their voucher or grant. Issues typically relate to rent calculations, relocation requests, reasonable accommodations, and sometimes tenant representation at administrative hearings. A home is a basic human need, as vital as education or health care.
