University Honors Requirements

Students must take an honours course at least every two semesters. Students who have two consecutive semesters without honours courses are unlikely to be able to meet the university`s requirements. Requests for exemption from this requirement must be made in writing to the Dean of the College of Honour. The honours program offers two designations for participation, University Honors with Distinction and University Honors. Graduates of the program are honored at the beginning and have an honorary title on their transcripts. Designations are created from the following course types: University specialization students who are not in good standing will be excluded from the program. To stay in good condition, students must ensure that they meet all the requirements of their cohort within the set deadlines. Students who do not meet a requirement will be excluded from academic honors. If you were an honours student who was hired and would like to apply again for academic honours, you can do so based on the date you were hired.

If the year and quarter you were hired are not included in the table below, you will not have the opportunity to reapply. If you are eligible, please visit the admission webpage for further instructions. Once you are readmitted to the honors, you will be subject to the requirements of the cohort in which you were newly inducted and will not have to meet the requirements you missed when you were not in the honors. Specialized students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30+ and take at least one specialization course per year to stay active. Highly gifted students can join the programme as incoming, transferring or current UNI students. Take a look at the admission requirements in the table below. After admission, you can choose between two different designations – University Honors with Distinction (30 credits) or University Honors (18 credits). Unfortunately, if you fail to meet any of these requirements on time, if your GPA drops below 3.5, or if you fail to meet other university scholarship requirements, you will forfeit any specialized scholarships you may receive. However, you can still participate in the Honors program and work to regain a good reputation.

You can still complete the specialization program as long as all requirements are met by the time you graduate. The Citation Honors is an academic award and formal recognition that a student meets all the requirements to complete the University Honors Living Learning program. For students entering the specialization program in the fall semester 2020 or thereafter, these are the prerequisites for completing the specialization program requirements before graduation. Current UNI students can apply to the program with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better and a recommendation from a professor. The requirements listed below apply to students who participated in the honours program prior to fall 2020. To remain in good standing in the honours program, students must: If you enroll in a dual bachelor`s/master`s program (e.g., 5+1, 3+3, 4+1) or are a pre-pharmacy major, you must meet the UHP requirements while you are a student. In order to remain in good standing with Honors College, students must comply with the GPA requirements mentioned above. * Advanced Honors courses can be used in place of General Honors Education for those whose LAC/UNIFI requirements are already met. Complete 12 semester hours (s.e.) of honor courses during your first 4 semesters in the program.* During this transition period, students enrolled in fall 2019 or earlier will be kept safe. No university honours student who follows his/her honours citation in good faith will be denied the opportunity to complete the program under the citation requirements received at registration. Students of the Nebraska Business Honors Academy or the Raikes School are also members of the University Honours Program and must meet the requirements of the Honours Program.

Much of the academy and raikes program is designed to help students meet the requirements of the honours program. Tip: You can double! A class can cover several requirements. International Education Requirement (students may complete it with one of the following options): Voluntary cancellation: If at any time you wish to voluntarily terminate your participation in academic honors, please contact your designated specialist advisor immediately. Whatever the reason, your designated Honor Advisor can guide you through the proper process. Hire: Honors status is determined at the end of each quarter, and you will be excluded from Honors if you do not meet the Honors requirements for a particular quarter. If you are hired, you will receive an email at the end of the term. Abandonment complaint: Your cancellation email will provide instructions on how to appeal. Please read the email carefully and file an objection within the time limit. You can only appeal once during your time at University Honors. Note: If you have honor scholarships, you may need to complete a certain number of hours per year. In this case, any credit acquired during a summer semester is credited in arrears, i.e.

it is valid for the following academic year. This is non-negotiable. Students must submit contracts via MyUI to their instructor by the sixth week of each semester.
